Holland — In November 2010, several residents in west-central Holland realized they had some common concerns about their neighborhood.
Uniting under the name Westcore Neighbors, their discussions led to action. They organized alley cleanups. They started a community garden. They worked with the Holland Boys & Girls Club to create a mural in a corridor once tagged with graffiti.
Westcore Neighbors’ achievements are the kind Good Samaritan Ministries’ Director Linda Jacobs hopes other residents can be inspired to accomplish — and she wants to provide them with a foundation for getting there.
Next month, the agency will team with Orchard View Community Education of Muskegon to bring author Peter Block to Grand Haven.
Block, a nationally known speaker, will lead a March 12 workshop for residents who want to improve communities with the resources and skill sets they already have.
