In this week’s video, Peter explains how expressions of vulnerability are risky, but have a huge impact on the way we interact with others. Despite our insistence on function over connection, we’re forging relationships with the people we work with whether we choose to or not. The choice, then, is in whether those relationships are predicated on authenticity.
We all have examples of diners or coffee-shops we visit for no reason other than the company. Whether it’s a spunky waitress or a helpful barista, those connections are what matter and continually drive us back to the same establishments. The moments of transparency where we let our guard down and offer our vulnerability are the ones that we both remember and value. This can be applied to our business relationships as well, where the façade of indifference we use to mask our vulnerability has a time and place to come down.
