Time is Subjective

You have a major presentation in one hour. You visit IT for help setting up, they tell you it will be about half an hour before they can get to you. “I don’t have time to wait,” would, more often than not, be our response. But what is our response when the boss calls and wants to meet with us? “Sure boss, I’m not busy. I’ll be right up.”

So why do we give two different answers? Because we always have the time, time is our own construction. It is our sense of urgency that is our biggest obstacle to getting work accomplished.  We could sit down and talk with the boss and still complete our tasks.

But when we do stop to talk, the conversation always rushes to how we are going to solve a problem. In this week’s video, Peter says there is no hurry to make that decision before you ask one very important question. How are we both contributing to the very problem we are complaining about? Our time is subjective, but we should make sure we take the time to ask questions, which are sometimes more powerful than answers.
